Dear Mr Bryson
Thank you for your letter of 12 November 1998. I do apologise
for the delay in replying which is due to pressure of work.
The Commission for Racial Equality provides assistance to individuals
making complaints of racial discrimination under the Race Relations
Act 1976. The Act covers discrimination in areas such as employment,
education, housing and the delivery of goods, facilities and services.
Complaints of racial discrimination in employment have to be submitted
to an Employment Tribunal within 3 months, less one day, of the
act of discrimination and in non employment cases within 6 months,
less one day, of the act of discrimination to the Central London
County court.
I have read the correspondence you have provided, and it would
appear that the matters you have raised are either outside the
scope of the Act or outside the time limit in which to bring proceedings.
Please note that legal aid is available to pursue cases of racial
discrimination in County Court matters. Your local Citizens Advice
Bureau will be able to provide you with a list of legal aid solicitors
in your area, and may be able to offer advice on other legal matters.
If you require the return of your documents, please let me know.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for bringing the matter
to our attention.
Yours Sincerely
Patrick Robinson
